What is Reiki?
If you were to google "Reiki", you would find a plethora of descriptions. In keeping it simple, I like the one I found as described below because it made sense to me:
Reiki is a Japanese holistic light-touched energy-based modality.
A Reiki treatment helps to re-establish the energy flow of “ki” (life force energy) in the body helping to enhance the body’s innate healing abilities. The Reiki practitioner guides the energy flow through a series of hand positions, whereby the client's body will draw from this energy flow the amount of energy that is required for healing/relaxation/personal growth.
A more modern explanation has described "Reiki as a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing on all levels (the emotional, physical, mental and spiritual). For myself, this description really resonates because of the feedback I have received from those who have come to me for a Reiki Session.
Why I chose Reiki as a relaxation tool?
I was first introduced to Reiki in 1991 through people I'd met at meditation workshops and was intrigued by the gentle and soothing "healing" properties that Reiki can evoke. What drew me to Reiki are the non-intrusive presence of the practitioner, and a comforting sense of calm that seems to flow with such ease throughout and following the session.
In my personal experience of giving and receiving Reiki, I discovered just how unique Reiki can be to each person's experience AND each time they have a session as well. I am continually amazed at how each person responds to the Reiki energy and what may be troubling them when they come into a session.
Gentle Guidance Reiki for Relaxation:
Your session will be 90 minutes long in a softly candle lit room with soothing music playing in the background. You will lie clothed on a massage table. You will have a light blanket over you for warmth and pillows beneath your head and knees will give you support and comfort.
Your Reiki for Relaxation begins when I take you through a gentle guided relaxation to prepare you for the Reiki journey/treatment to come. In about fifteen minutes, when you have slipped more deeply into a quiet state, I place my hands lightly on or just above your body, and begin the Reiki treatment.
Mostly we are quiet, occasionally we may speak – clarifying or exchanging information about what is happening. Because each session is totally unique to each individual, you may experience states of quiet and calm, or, a heightened sensitivity to images, sounds, and sensations, or, you may fall asleep for the entire hour.
When the session draws to its natural close, I will guide you through another fifteen-minute relaxation, which will help you, absorb the healing benefits of Reiki. This relaxation time also helps you to ground and reconnect comfortably with the outer world.
Then, I leave you for a few minutes as you prepare yourself to come back into your normal everyday activities.
